This magnificent dark buzzard was given to me by Andy Polkey who found it hanging by a primary shaft from a barbed wire fence along the railway line on Cors Caron. It had clearly struggled until succumbing to the cold(we have had -10C here last week overnight tues and Wed). It had been eating a sheep corpse adjacent to the fence when disturbed and in taking off had smashed its wing into the fence. Beautifully coloured it measured 1.2m across the wing span.
I have disturbed several woodcock around my garden recently all feeding close to a sheep fence and each one clattered into the fence twice before changing course.
