Spent the morning at the shellfish plant in New Quay, hoping that yesterday's atrocious weather would have its compensations bird wise.
As I was watching a tightly packed group of about eight Bottle-nosed Dolphins just lolling about near the surface a Storm Petrel appeared just above them, followed a few minutes later by a Great Skua steaming past in the background.
Soon afterwards two more stormies joined the original bird and the three of them stayed around all morning.
As I had left home early without hearing any local news I was quite puzzled to then receive two phone calls from friends in England asking me if I was all right. It was only after getting home this afternoon, looking at the BBC website and then speaking to Bob that I learned about the floods.
A stream of Gannets, Manx Shearwaters, Kittiwakes and Fulmars, many at very close range, kept me entertained until the icing on the cake, an immature light morph Pomarine Skua which went past so close that I could easily have missed it.
