Penrhyn lakes - yesterday

Had a quick trip around the Penrhyncoch Lakes yesterday afternoon. Difficult to see much with the gloomy conditions that prevailed. On the shore of Pendam - a lone Jay but nothing else to be seen except for a trio of Red Kites on their way back from luncheon at Nant Yr Arian. Approaching Blaenmelindwr I saw some white birds on the lake - oh - do we have some Whooper Swans at last? No - on closer observation through the rapidly fading light they proved to be geese! But what are white geese doing on Blaenmelindwr? Are they Snow Geese blown in on the recent gales? As they came closer across the lake they appeared more like domestic geese!! Where are they from and will they be there in a months time?
However all was not lost as when I looked round there was a Merlin watching me from its vantage point on top of one of the dead stumps in the clear fell.
