Yesterday I photographed a a colour-ringed. Great White Egret from the hide at Cors Caron (photo supplied,)
The bird was ringed at Westhay reserve, Somerset, on 28 April 2025. In September it was reported from Cors Caron and in February from the Teifi at Llanfair Clydogau. It then returned to Somerset where it was photographed just over a week ago on April 10th. They said that although the birds wander quite widely over the first couple of years, it is unusual for them to return home and then go back to where they have visited.....They asked to be kept informed if it stays around....

A Cuckoo seen and heard singing at the south end of Cors Caron this morning.
In the afternoon, Spotted and Pied Flycatchers, Redstarts. Whinchats, Blackcaps, Willow Tits, Chiffchaffs and Willow Warblers on the bog.
This evening at Pont Einon, a singing Cuckoo, 2 Curlews, 2 Tedshanks, 2 Goosanders and 2 Roe Deer.

Eight species of wader present inc 10 Knot, single Whimbrel and Common Sandpiper. Also about were 2 Whinchats, 6 White Wagtails and a couple of Wheatears.
I saw 11 Sandwich Terns and a Red-throated Diver at Llansantffraed this morning, all flying south.
A wonderful looking shrike was a total shock at Llanrhystud early this morning on an otherwise chilly and relatively birdless visit. Between the car park and kilns. Showing very well and still present at the moment I believe.
Good numbers of migrants in with grasshopper, reed and sedge warblers new in today along with redstart. Good numbers of of pied flycatcher in too. Also on the reserve today were several great egrets, osprey and 4 marsh harriers.

It was a delightful morning today at Salem with some new migrants in - willow Warblers, blackcaps, redstarts and a pied flycatcher. Also seen was a fieldfate, to my surprise. I found another new red kite nest, which makes a total of five so far this year, although several of those will have been existing pairs ,"relocating"
