Todays birds

Brrrrr............. it was a wintry one today with a bitterly cold easterly and wet with it. I On my way to Aber I took a detour via Ynyslas and Borth. I stopped on the roadside before reaching the Ynyslas railway crossing to scan the pastureland and towards the bog for birdlife. I had no intention of relinquishing the cosy warmth of my vehicle. There were lapwing, starlings and fieldfare probing in the fields and a female harrier (ringtail) quartering the bog in the distance close to the river embankment. A low flying sparrowhawk put everything up before it and a snipe flew in to join the lapwing and the sheep on the pastureland. There were lots of golden plover, curlew and canada geese in the fields behind 'JB's' house at Ynyslas.
