WADERS,PIPITS and GULLS

Bob and I began the day at Llanrhystud where we found 8 Grey Plovers on the rocky foreshore by the caravans and, more surprisingly, 3 Purple Sandpipers. Oystercatchers, Redshanks, Turnstones and Ringed Plovers also present. Where the river enters the sea, there were many Rock and Meadow Pipits and a Water Pipit. 2 Red-throated Divers were offshore.
Down the coast at Llansantffraed about 140 Curlews were on the cliff-top meadows and about 130 Golden Plovers circled overhead. One adult and one first winter Mediterranean Gulls where there. At adjacent Llanon, some of Chris Bird's numerous Med. Gulls were loitering on the sea.
Back at Aberystwyth, Rachel, Ian and I reckoned there were 8 Purple Sandpipers infront of the Old College. I watched an impressive Starling gathering at the pier and finally headed back to the hills.
