Thaw imminent?

Went out on Sunday morning for a walk in the Stag's Head area prior to the most recent snowfall. It was very noticeable that birds were virtually absent from the wider countryside being concentated instead around houses, farms and roadsides. Spotted a Woodcock,Snipe and a Peregrine cruising the road down to Llangeitho.
Today I was in Lampeter and as I passed an unemptied wheelybin on the main street I heard a rustling within. A quick peek flushed a startled Blackbird about 2 feet down feeding on discarded takeaway food. Desperate times indeed.
Just looked at a forecast which seems to suggest that warmer weather is on the way.
