I've recorded 3 Tawny Owls this week. On Monday, one was calling as I was getting ready for work (Llangybi) and I saw another on the edge of Lampeter as I drove in. On Tuesday morning on my way to work a Tawny Owl had a perilously close encounter with my windscreen as I approached the office at Horeb.
No sign of the Goshawk at my favoured spot today. I think I was there too early. They don't seem to 'get up' before about 10.45.
Went for a hike yesterday in the Tywi Forest again, but at rather higher ground than last week. At 500m it's still very much winter. Quite large patches of snow in the plantations, black ice in places on the tracks and long, orange icicles oozing out of the peaty soil. Only a single Crossbill to be seen.
