blackbird Des-Res

As Mike says it's pretty cold in these parts and our boiler has drained the oil-tank whilst I was concentrating on the nestbox cams. Never mind, up to the wood shed and get the wood burner going again....aaagh.... a blackbird has built and is sitting on eggs in a nest right in the middle of the wood pile. We had to buy a bag of logs from a garage and now have a horrible feeling that its either wood from one of those slaughtered hedges or wood from a pristine and ancient East European forest...aaagh.

Did a RSPB farmland survey this morning with Angie Polkey at Penlanlas (farm and golf course near Llanfarian) and what a brilliant place! Mark Lloyd has entered into the spirit of Tir Gofal and has the birds to prove it. Superb views of grasshopper warbs and sedges singing themselves silly plus loads more because there is food in wild bird cover crops, thick hedges, bramble thickets, ponds, and weedy, rushy areas.
If you are a golfer get up there and enjoy the course, birds and cafe!
