NEW QUAY

Yesterday I was on the cliff-top at New Quay and all the viewable ledges where the Razorbills and Guillemots had been nesting were empty, the birds having finished their breeding season. All that is except for one pair of Guillemots and their chick which looked all set to go, frantically flappings its tiny wings. That night I was sure it would leap off its ledge, splash down into the water far below and be taken out to sea by its Dad.
A young Peregrine noisily flew past the cliff and the little Guillemot dashed for safety under its mother's outstretched wing.
All around them the Kittewake nests were bursting with youngsters, a few making short flights away from their nests while most will be taking a few more days before taking to the air for the first time.
