We spent the afternoon enjoying the dry weather in and around Llanerchaeron.
There were really good views of a dipper feeding along the edge of the river.
Other sightings of interest were - four little grebe, two of which seemed to
be juveniles, on the lake, one grey wagtail also at the lake and a 'lot' of
spotted flycatchers. The flycatchers were in two different areas and in both
there was so much toing and froing that I could not count them. There were two
female/ juvenile blackcaps in the woods by the river and seven long tailed
tits by the walled garden. There were many swallows and some house martins
feeding over the lake and a check in the dairy building found at least three
swallows nests still containing young and some very busy parent birds.
Like others we noticed that the slightly better weather had brought out a few
more butterflies. Our tally was two red admirals, one comma, many washed out
meadow browns, lots of whites and, best of all, three common blues.
