Llanrhystud

There was a lot to see( and miss ) at Llanrhystud this morning. Stonechat and Wheatear were near the car park. The lime kilns were full of warblers;single Whitethroat,Garden Warbler and Chiffchaff and 4 Blackcaps plus a stunning view of a Lesser Whitethroat. An "interesting" looking warbler then appeared briefly, perhaps it was just a Chiffchaff but you know how it is. Tantalising. Within a minute 2 Sedge Warblers put in appearances, one within touching distance almost, the other at the top of an elder taking flies like a Flycatcher. The "interesting" one remained just that.
Out at the point were a few Sandwich Terns with others moving past, about 30 in all, plus 5 Arctic Terns settled on the rocks and a couple of Mediterranean Gulls. A Sparrowhawk landed on the rocks very close to them trying to look nonchalant as if paddling in rock pools is perfectly normal behaviour for Sparrowhawks.
At sea birds were being sucked towards what was I guess a shoal of fish. Shearwaters(200), a Gannet and lots of gulls were arriving from all directions. I wondered if there might be a skua about but it was all too far away.
Rain stopped play at 11 but returning to the car park I saw a few flocks of waders heading south; Dunlin26, Ringed Plover 19, Turnstone 4, Common Redshank2. Two Sanderling fed on the shore. A dead Gannet was close to the car park.
