Evening tide at Ynyslas

The tide was very high this evening - reaching to the very edges of the dunes beyond the marginal posts, and the estuary calm. Several hundred Swallows made a spectacular sight feeding low over the water off the mouth of the Leri. About 50 Sandwich Terns were on and around the post tops. At the Point the shingle was all submerged and the waders were busy feeding along the tide edge as it approached the dune edges - well spread out and hard to count in the fading light. Approx 200 Dunlin, 100 Ringed Plover, and 8 Curlew Sandpipers.

c. 250 Oystercatchers flew out from the estuary en-masse, then after about 15 minutes reappeared and flew back up-river again! A single juv. Common tern was with the Sandwich terns.
