Time for shooters to put their guns away?

The continued freeze is surely going to mean starvation for a lot of the wildfowl and waders here as well as elsewhere up and down the country. I counted approximately 650 ducks on the narrow channel at Aberleri this morning. There were more clustered together on the thin strip of unfrozen mud beside the water.
This is one of the few remaining places hereabouts where they might be able to get some sustenance.
As I was coming away I saw two shooters preparing for their morning's "sport".
If disturbed the birds will waste precious energy in fleeing the guns.
If shot in such extreme conditions it will be a pitiless act.
Surely it is time for the shooting fraternity to show a little compassion.
