A calm and mild day yesterday was a nice change for the co-ordinated count of the waders and wildfowl on the Dyfi carried out by RSPB staff. Highlights included 35 red-breasted merganser off Aberdyfi, a nice variety of waders on the Leri, where John Davis, also birdwatching, had knot, bar-tailed godwit and grey plover amongst the hundreds of oystercatchers and curlew and a spotted redshank and greenshank at Ynys-hir.
This morning, despite the gloom and low cloud, a lesser spotted woodpecker is drumming very near to the Visitor Centre (very early in the year) and 2 brambling are amongst the birds on the feeder.
