The female that has been around since Saturday is still with us. Both birds have been mating, nest collecting, food sharing - all those behaviours you would hope to see at this stage. As I write the new female is eating a Mullet gifted to her by the male on the nest.
This female is ringed; she has a BTO ring on her left leg and a white plastic (Darvic) on the right with the numbers 03. She is a 2008 born female osprey from a Rutland Water nest site. Of the two known Welsh osprey nests that have produced young to date, both the males have come from Rutland - Glaslyn, a 1998 born male and Welshpool, a 1997 male. How remarkable if this was the third nest to have a Rutland osprey if they bred.
