Barn Owls

Just to back-up what Liz says. I know of one nest on the edge of Tregaron Bog where the female began a second clutch about a month ago (should be just hatching now) and another where the eggs were hatching just under a month ago. Still have some boxes to check for second broods so might be a few more yet. On the down side, over half of all the Ceredigion sites that I check that were occupied last year were deserted this season. This highlights the serious impact of last winters icy weather. Hopefully these late and second attempts may help to speed-up the replacement of missing pairs, although, unfortunately these second broods chicks don't fair nearly so well as first brood ones though as they have to learn to fend for themselves at the onset of winter! A few years back I ringed a brood near Cwmystwyth in snowfall in early November!
