The Severn Estuary Gull Group very quickly replied and have given me the details of the 2 Herring Gulls seen at New Quay yesterday (see below).
Both were ringed as adults at Stoke Orchard Landfill Site in Gloucestershire.
Blue EHZ was ringed on 7th February 2009. In January 2010 it was seen at Gloucester LS, 16km away; in December 2010 at Throckmorton LS in Worcestershire 22 km away and back at Gloucester LS a few days later. New Quay was its first coastal sighting, 158 km away from the ringing site.
Blue EZM was ringed on 30th January 2010 and seen in March 2010 2km away from Stoke Orchard at Grundons LS in Gloucestershire. The next sighting was at New Quay yesterday.
Another Herring Gull, Blue 458, ringed as a first-year bird in October 2006 at another Gloucestershire rubbish tip, was at Ynyslas in September 2008 and at Aberarth in August 2010.
