A knowledgable local birder contacted me on the evening of Saturday 8th about two Snow Geese he had seen flying on to stubble fields above Aberaeron near dusk earlier nthat evening. They were also seen on the evening of Sunday 9th and the morning of Tuesday 11th. They were in the company of Grey geese and were extremely skittish. There was also a separate flock of Canada geese - which were much less nervous.
I was unfortunately away and could only get up there on Wednesday 12th - only Canadas flew in above the noise of the hedge flailers.
Provenance? Feral escapes? But this is a good date for wild birds to arrive - and they were extremely nervous. It is also interesting that other recent Snow Goose sightings include one at Craobh Haven (Argyll) to 9th October and another on Barra (Outer Hebrides) on 7th.
