Buzzard migration?
After a few days of madly doing all the outside jobs that I've being saying that I'd do all winter it was job done and down tools at 4pm today closely followed by a well earned cuppa. It was then that I noticed a couple of buzzards heading north over the house. With bright blue skies and BoPs passing overhead it reminded me a bit of my trip to Sweden last year to watch migrating raptors. These two buzzards were then closely followed by another three again passing north overhead - at this stage I got my scope. During the next two hours (4pm - 6pm) a total of 56 Buzzards passed over the house, either as singles or in small groups (max 4). All birds heading north and no birds were seen returning or heading in the opposite direction. Some of the birds were missing primaries and/or tail feathers and were very distinctive and would have been very obvious if they had passed more than once. This was definitely not a coming together of local birds and had I been anywhere other than Wales I would have said that I was watching passage birds. Anybody else noticed buzzards heading north today?
