Nests - Good News and a bit of bad news

Have just read Andre's report, did a check on the nests at Blaenpennal today.

Good news is the adult Redstarts at the three nest boxes here at Blaenpennal have all been feeding young in the boxes as are the 2 boxes of Blue Tits and the one box of Great Tits.
All 4 of the young Nuthatches that fledged 2 weeks ago seemed to have survived the torrential rain as have the 2 newly fledged Great Spotted Woodpeckers that looked in a really bad way on Friday as they sat for ages in the rain waiting to be fed, as all have have been regular visitors to the bird feeder.
The pair of Jackdaws using one of the Barn Owl boxes have fledged 3 young although this might not been as planned as the box suffered in the storm and is now at an alarming angle.  Another nest box of Great Tits waited until yesterday to fledge. Sadly the 5 young Dunnock nesting in the gorse succumbed to the rain however, and quite amazingly the Willow Warbler young survived, the nest is just a 'cave' on the ground within a mass of overgrown grasses and yet inside it is both dry and very warm.
As a general note prior to the recent bad weather, 3 Blackbird nests I found were subsequently all predated and the Mistle Thrushes had their three young predated and then tried again only to lose the eggs, seem to be quite a few young Grey Squirrels around at present!
