The first Purple Sandpiper of the winter was roosting on the wall near Castle Point at high tide this morning. At least I haven't heard of any others.
Bob then turned up, saw the bird and picked up a passing Gannet before we went to look for Chris's Black Redstart on the Old College.
No luck, so it was down the coast. At Llanrhystud, a colour-ringed Chough (Bob has details), a Dunlin on the flooded field, 3 Curlews north and 8 Redshank south offshore. Otherwise a few pipits and loads of Starlings.
At Llanon not even pipits. A different Chough was on the roof of the Plas Morfa hotel and a Kestrel nearby.
Back to Aberystwyth and this time the Black Red, a cracking male, showed itself almost immediately, spending most time around the balcony above the main entrance.
Later in the day I came across about 35 Fieldfares in trees along a back road near Bronnant.
