The wet ground and mud isn’t all bad news this morning Capel Seion has been the location for birdfest Ceredigion. The wet field behind the house has been the venue for 150-200 starlings, some of whom used the puddles of standing water to shower in, then sat on the post and rail fence edging the pond to dry and preen in the sunshine. Meanwhile groups of fieldfares, about a dozen at a time splashed in the shallow water at the pond’s edge, whilst the remaining 60 or so foraged on the field. Also perhaps up to 100 redwings divided their time between foraging amongst the grass, and berry picking in the hedge. Plus the bird party in the next field, focussed on the mainly hawthorn hedge. The east facing side proved an attractive spot for some sun basking, perhaps combined with look-out duties, whilst the mixed flock of redwings, blackbirds, mistle thrushes and fieldfares were berry picking in excess of another 70 birds.
Hope you and Buster have had a pleasant walk in the sunshine too.
