Thrushes,Jays
I think David Price mentioned the other day that he hadn't seen too many Fieldfares and Redwings around Llanddewi. Same here, a little downriver towards Lampeter. However, I have seen lots of Jays. This week I revisited two of the tetrads that I surveyed for the national atlas and counted about 50. Assuming I've missed at least a few if not more, that's a lot of Jays. As with the comment on the blog about the Woodcock; "where did it come from?" I wonder the same about these Jays. The fact that I never saw more than two together suggested to me that they were local birds just behaving in a very visible manner at this time of the year. However, I am aware that some migrate to the UK so perhaps some have traveled from further afield. I once read of a record from many years ago where somebody saw a single flock of 300 feeding in a field together!
