A dipper flashed past as I arrived at the Clettwr this morning - I got another brief sighting later - and I picked out a kingfisher sat motionless on the river bank. I disturbed a sparrowhawk about 100 yards from the gate as I walked towards the railway bridge but the perishing cold got even colder the further I went so I turned back and went to Ynyslas. In the field beside the boatyard there were about 20 golden plover, 40 lapwing and a dozen or so curlew. And of course, starlings. There were a few teal and redshank on the river bank and a single ringed plover.
