Lesser spotted Woodpecker

A casual midday stroll around the woodland behind Tal-y-Bont revealed a completely unexpected but ever so pleasant surprise in the form of a male Lesser Spotted Woodpecker. We first saw it briefly move up an oak tree and then heard it calling twice as it followed the oaks along the Leri towards Tal-y-Bont.
We were also pleased to locate three singing Wood Warblers, one male Pied Flycatcher and plenty of Redstarts where the woods open up onto farmland. Also good numbers of Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler.
