Nesting neighbours
The curtain of ivy looks like it could certainly do with trimming but it creates a wonderful natural barrier for those nesting birds who want peace from predators. The curtain is 6 foot long and falls in front of a shale river bed bank at the rear of our house. It is currently the home of a family of Blackbirds and right next door no more than 3ft away a family of Robins. They have very cleverly worked out that they can fly between the house and the very high bank without being spotted by predators. A third family have chosen to build their nest higher on electricity trunking behind the weatherboard above a window overlooking the ivy curtains. It looks precarious but seems stable!
There is certainly no shortage of things to see and hear this month.
