News from Andre Marsh

A few days ago I finally got a good enough view of the Coed Dolgoed Green Woodpecker to see that it is a female. A very likely looking tree has also been found. Just need to stake it out to see if she is using it as a roost site.

Today there was a great crested grebe on Llyn Teifi and at the dam 2 common sandpipers. Another bird was calling at the opposite end of the Llyn and another about halfway on the far bank, so possibly 3 pairs. Llyn Hir was birdless & Egnant only some canada geese. I walked to Claerddu and on to Llyn Du (pair of pied wagtail) and then around Llyn Fyrddon Fach (pair of mallard + 5 juv, pair pied wagtail) and then Llyn Fyrddon Fawr which had a raven nest 5 feet off the ground in a tiny rowan tree! Another common sandpiper silently flew along as I skirted the Llyn. A black headed gull and 2 LBB gulls were the only other birds of note.
23 wheatear, 27 singing skylark and 4 linnet were also seen.
