Merlin and Hen Harrier and hidden Pintails

A pre-arranged day out today was madness but being women we persevered and were rewarded with a close fly-by of a female ring tail Hen Harrier at Ynys Hir, plus 11 Bar-tailed Godwits and a close view of the stunning little falcon, a brown merlin, at the mouth of the Leri where we were tracking down what appeared to be 3 greenshank.
On studying the pastures between the boatyard and the bungalows a small pond was sheltering a small number of Pintail which was a surprise for me as I normally see them in mainstream towards Aberdovey.  If Janet looked out her back window she probably got some great views of their bathing routines.
We did end up with just over 50 species and felt virtuous for persevering!!
Oh yes, species 51 was Russell in the Ferwig hide!
