Ynys-hir this morning

Harry, John and I arranged to meet at Ynys-hir this morning to go looking for Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.  I arrived early and decided to take a stroll towards the cross-roads before the others arrived.  I had only walked a few yards from the visitor centre when I heard a lesser pecker drumming ahead.  When I reached the cross-roads I had a quick look at a tree that they have favoured in the past, but I couldn't locate the little critter.  So I decided to walk down the track towards the tractor shed where I bumped into one of the RSPB staff who was aiming a camera at the bird, directly above our heads.  I got a brief look, then it flew off towards the lake in front of the visitor centre.
When Harry and John arrived we spent quite some time searching the area but unfortunately the bird was nowhere to be seen.  And I didn't gloat at all!
