On Cors Caron this morning I heard an unusual sound coming again from a particular spot. We are all (probably) familiar with the odd sounds water rails make in the winter but this regular churr/check noise I heard is actually the male's song.
Google 'song of water rail wildsounds' and there are all the water rail sounds including one I wonder if anyone reading this has heard: the stealth contact call. I suspect one has to be head down in the swamp 6 feet away to hear this one!
Grasshopper warblers were singing and a Little Egret is still present; if you visit keep an eye out for them as there were two and we're hoping they might be breeding though they are not in the heronry by Maes Llyn.
