The Swifts have been extremely
slow to arrive this year in many parts of the country not just here largely due
to the adverse weather conditions; many established breeding pairs have still
not arrived in some areas but as you have mentioned they are now starting to
arrive slowly. I have only seen a maximum of 6 Swifts here in Bow Street and two
of them are from my breeders box; unfortunately just as they started to incubate
three eggs one bird was lost (probably predated). The remaining bird has now
managed to attract a new partner but the three eggs have been thrown out of
course. If the Swifts do decide to remain it will be a late season for many
perhaps September before many breeders are leaving. Lets hope they do stay and
the rest of the year picks up !
