John and Bob joined me at my place this morning for a leisurely day's birding round the local area. John had already photographed Pied and Spotted Flycatcher on my roof (the birds, not John) before Bob arrived.
On the way to Cors Ian we stopped to watch a Cuckoo flying across Comins Pen-y-banc.
Cors Ian is a lovely little reserve and here we had the first of several reeling Grasshopper Warblers, followed by a suspiciously gropper- shaped bird in the middle of a bush.
Otherwise not a lot: the morning was overcast and still quite cool, though we did get a Stock Dove,a Sand Martin and two Curlews in addition to the usual warblers, pipits, etc.
Continuing east, a short detour for three Curlews and two Lapwing; still hanging on round here, followed soon after by a Weasel which ran across the road.
Next, to the north end of Cors Caron. Lots of warblers, plus Stonechat, Linnet and a Sparrowhawk.
Lunch was taken at the picnic site by the boardwalk car park, followed by a walk out onto the boardwalk,
where the increasingly warm and humid conditions had brought out a multitude of dragonflies and damselflies, raising hopes of a Hobby. It was not to be, so we set off back, stopping at Black Covert where we finished off by watching a Grey Wagtail feeding one of its young.
