Coed Y Bont public ringing session

Thanks to Tony Cross and his trainee ringers Sarah and Andre we were able to see at close quarters a number of our breeding species this morning and hopefully enthuse the youngsters who were there.
These two goldcrests (guess which is the boy) look a bit ruffled but they flew off  strongly when released from the photo shoot.  There were redpolls, garden and willow warblers both young and moulting adults with brood patches plus a blackbird, dunnock and blue tits but the star of the catch was the grasshopper warbler which has been teasing us with its reeling alongside the main track since April.
Tony and Andre also heard a kingfisher by the main pond which is great news and although the low water levels and absence of fish stocks at the moment made it a fleeting visit  we have great hopes for the future.
