The predation of our resident brood has been very high this year and there is
just one juvenile remaining from what is thought to have been 8
goosanderlings. The female parent is expected to care for sometimes a dozen of
these active birds and so it isn't surprising. However I expected that the last
three would have been viable owing to their size and age .Is this perhaps the
result of a very prolific breeding season of wild life generally or perhaps the
effect of fenced off areas along the river giving better cover for predators
such as the fox and the badger?
