Back to Ynyslas

Spot the Knot (five of them, also Sanderling)

Contrasting Turnstones at Aberystwyth

A brief stop at Aberystwyth (nine Turnstones, a Dunlin and a Purple Sandpiper), before heading for  the high tide at Ynyslas.
Glad I checked  Ynys Tachwedd  fields on the way as there was a Ruff with seven Whimbrel.
Tide still rising at Ynyslas, so I started at the tern posts, where there were 20 Redshank and two Turnstones, plus the usual small waders gathering on the rising tide.
Round at the point, a very large wader roost included five Knot and good numbers of Sanderling.
I was soon joined by Red, who later did counts, ending up with 1200 Dunlin, 300 Ringed Plover and 40 Sanderling, and also found a Bar-tailed Godwit.
Russell then arrived and later, as he and I were seawatching, he glanced upward and casually pointed out a passing Short-eared Owl.
Andre Morgan had also turned up, and I told him about the Ruff, which I'm pleased to say he later saw.
