Ystrad Caron

The waterlogged field we encountered during our February field trip has dried out during the nice weather of the past weeks so that the walk down to the Teifi from Tregaron secondary school is now very pleasant. Plenty of fledglings (2 x Great Tit, Blue Tit, House Sparrow, Wren) along the track, with the House Sparrows in particular having established a large colony around Ystrad Caron farm. Also a good spot to watch Swallows. Unfortunately the Redstart nest spot I found last year was not occupied this year and I haven't seen any Redstarts around. Four Curlews by the bank of the river, otherwise very quiet. The bird count was somewhat diminished by not being able to walk down to the sewage works as the cows, including bull, are on the fields now.
