First Tregaron Brambling

The first Tregaron Brambling visited our garden feeders this afternoon. We did not have any last winter, but it looks as if there's more northern migrants around this year, which I guess fits with press reports of a cold winter ahead. In this context I came across an interesting bit of information in a German book about Corvid intelligence - the German name of the Siberian Jay is, literally translated, the Jay of Misfortune, as the birds would only turn up in Germany ahead of extremely cold winters.
