Today's field trip

Eight people turned out for the field trip at Pen Cwm and enjoyed a
beautiful walk in beautiful weather.
Our bird list was: cormorant, gannet, common scoter, herring gull,
buzzard, curlew, wood pigeon, swallow, rock pipit, grey wagtail, pied
wagtail, wren, dunnock, robin, stonechat, blackbird, blackcap,
chiffchaff, whitethroat, garden warbler, goldcrest, great tit, blue
tit, magpie, jackdaw, crow, chough, linnet, and bullfinch.

The good weather had brought out a few butterflies and the list was:
speckled wood, small heath, common blue, ringlet, meadow brown and,
towards the end of our walk, two fritillary butterflies which we
decided must be dark green fritillary. We are grateful to Dai who was
our butterfly expert for this walk and helped us a lot but
unfortunately he had left by the time we saw the fritts. We also saw
silver Y moth and six spot burnet moth.
