Whinchat - Teifi

In the north of the county this would be unremarkable but as Whinchats don't breed in the south, a sighting in Cardigan was notable.
A distant Whinchat was an unexpected sighting, but in good migrant habitat. Along the start of the Ceredigion coastal path from Cardigan cemetery to the estuary are some excellent arable feeds, mostly maize but one really good field has Kale with a lot of seeding weeds mixed in. Several hundred Swallows were flying over it with 3 Red kites and a Buzzard.
Further along the walk the path goes close to the field favoured by the Teifi Goose flock at high tide.
1069 Canada Geese, 3 Greylag and a Bar-headed Goose. Several hybrids are well known to us, providing a useful marker as this flock wanders over the winter.

Redshank, Ringed Plover and Greenshank were heard calling and a Peregrine put all the corvids up as we walked along the middle section of the path.
