WHITE 39V7

This colour-ringed Mediterranean Gull was back in Aberystwyth, in the harbour last week. Its ring is beginning to show wear and tear. Indeed, the gull is 10 years old, having started its life near Antwerp in June 2008.
Records show it wintering in Portugal and spending at least some breeding seasons near Antwerp.
The only sightings in Britain over the years have been made by Liz, Chris and myself, either at Aberystwyth or around Llanrhystud, on dates from late June to mid-August before it heads south for the autumn and winter.
