Coastal birding

An outing with Andy Dent, starting at Llanrhystud.  First of all, apologies to Ian who's name completely slipped my mind as he approached us.  Anyway, as Ian says in his post below, not a lot about, though we did find a couple of Wheatears among the Linnets and Meadow Pipits, and an unseen Greenshank called.
Also, the Swallow passage was gaining momentum, and by the time we got to Llansantffraed they were coming in off the sea in good numbers.
Andy and I reckoned we had at least 200, mostly at Llansantffraed, where in addition to small numbers of the usual waders, there was a Wigeon and a Teal in the bay, a Razorbill further out and a Merlin, which caused havoc around the area before hurtling over our heads and out to sea.
The scrub along the Peris would repay scrutiny at this time of year.  We found two Whitethroats, a Coal Tit and probable Willow Warbler in there.
We ended up with a walk along the coastal fields at Llanon.  Swallows down to a trickle. around 90 Linnets and at least 50 Skylarks moved through, two Choughs went north and offshore, two Bottle-nosed Dolphins and a Gannet.
11 Red Kites were perched on fence posts and as we drove north we noticed a few more heading south.
