Ynyslas vismig etc.

A little bit of movement was evident today at Ynyslas. I don't think the drizzle in the early hours helped matters much, but there were still a few birds moving around the point.

Meadow Pipit - 137 S / 118 N (97 u-turned)
Linnet - 25 S / 91 N (41 u-turned)
Reed Bunting - 4 N (u-turned)
Chaffinch - 3 S
Grey Wagtail - 3 S
Alba wagtail sp. - 10 S / 3 N
Swallow - 108 S
Skylark - 1 S
Snipe - 2 S
Golden Plover - 24 S

It's interesting to see so many northbound birds in autumn, not particularly sure what that's all about. The 'u-turned' birds refer to birds heading north up the coast and then circling around the point and heading off SE, it's seems as if they see the estuary mouth and decide against flying over it.

The real highlights of the day were to be found in the boatyard gardens in the form of a Jay and a Spotted Flycatcher, both of which were new species for the site for me. Loads of Linnets still at Ynys Tachwedd (c.400) as well as a Merlin, a Kestrel, a Sparrowhawk and a Whimbrel.

*Presumably a different Spotted Flycatcher was in the boatyard gardens this evening, as I saw the one this morning fly off high into the distance.
