Fright at Llanon

No waders on the flooded field at Llanrhystud this morning but a gannet and rapidly-flying scoters at sea and a little egret on the rocky point. At Morfa Llanon, 5 golden plovers and 12 turnstones on the beach. Newly sown winter cereals have replaced last years’ stubbles. An unexpected female pheasant sitting on the shingle took off two feet from me, making me jump and swear! Sitting on the bench back at the car park, I spotted a red-throated diver fairly close inshore.
