Old Boys outing

John and I met up on the prom at Aberystwyth this morning and before long he picked up an Egret flying north offshore.  As it approached, what we had assumed was a Little E turned out to be a Great White. What a surprise bird and an Aberystwyth tick. Still a few Gannets and Kittiwakes at sea.
We then went up to Ynys-hir and met up with Bob for one of our occasional outings.
For the high tide we went to the eastern end of the reserve and from the hill by Marian Mawr then the Saltings hide (with a Sparrowhawk in between) we picked up the following:   Grey Plover 5, Dunlin 48, Redshank 12, Lapwing 5, Bar-tailed Godwit 8, Shelduck 6, Pintail 20+. Goosander 5.
We also enjoyed flight views of the Red-breasted Goose and on the way back, by the Marian Mawr pools encountered a mobile flock of 17 - 20 Long-tailed Tits accompanied by at least one Goldcrest.
