Not
a bad morning on the reserve…
A
crisp autumn morning at Ynys-hir with loads of birds on the reserve. A pre-dawn
watch from the Ynys-Feurig hide to see if the Greenland white-fronted geese had
returned was unsuccessful, but while I was waiting there was a barn owl,
peregrine, 317 teal, 17 shovellers, 135 curlews, 70 lapwing a few fly over
fieldfares. However, best of all were two whooper swans on the estuary. A walk
later to meet a contractor produced a brambling, a young male goshawk and a
flock of 20 lesser redpolls. Throughout the day there have been hundreds of
redwings flying over, must be a big movement nationally
