At Tynyrhelyg we’ve been treated to regular barn owl sightings this spring. Most
recently on Wednesday 17 June. I’ve been recording each sighting on the Barn Owl
Trust survey website.
The barn owl flew early yesterday evening at 9.30
pm. It flew around the hay field then in and out of our garden - all the time in
our full view through the big windows. And so close with a clear view of that
distinctive barn owl face. I hadn't appreciated before these sightings this year
how they flutter, almost a low level hover, scanning the ground presumably for
for voles and shrews, and field mice. Then dropping into the sward for the
kill.
There must be a roost and possible a nest nearby but I will wait
till after the nesting season to investigate. Don’t want to cause a
disturbance.
