New Quay area

I left my car at Synod Inn garage for a service yesterday (8th) and walked home taking a x country route. I went through the lovely Penrhiwgaled woods hoping to see the pied flycatchers that have been known to use the nest boxes there. No luck I’m afraid but the canopy is dense. In a clearing there was a pair of spotted flycatchers. The path ends at the hamlet of Dolau near Gilfachreda. There I was surprised by a pair of alarm calling Redstarts. This was a first for me locally as i’ve only seen them in transit early in the season. I’m sure they are probably more widespread but not observed. Also at Dolau was another spotted flycatcher.
