A dusk visit to Salem yesterday to have a look at the kite roost. I only saw about 15 birds (although there could have been more). I am coming to the conclusion that it is only occasionally that larger numbers congregate there. Most visits I see 15 - 20 birds. Does anyone know if there's anything in the literature about kite roosts?
While I was there a tight flock of 20 - 25 stock doves went in to roost in
some conifers; and then another small group arrived, so maybe 28 altogether. A
large number of blackbirds were alarm-calling which suggested an owl but I
didn't see it. At the same time I noticed a distant peregrine interacting with a
kite high above the valley.
