Aberystwyth Cuckoo

After recieving a message from one of our ornithological society members, saying that they think they heard a cuckoo calling on the top path of Penglais wood, I headed straight out. After a walk along the top path and a short wait, it began calling! It was calling intermitently and we got some brief flight views as it headed towards the small patch of conifers at the town-end of the wood. This morning at castle point I had 157 manxies, 19 gannets, 5 swallows north, 3 dunlin south and one auk. At Tanybwlch there was 5 whimbrel, 4 common sandpipiers (2 in the harbour), 3 swallows north, 15 sand martins feeding along the Ystwyth, 12 wheatear and a whitethroat singing from accross the river.
